A summer storm on the St. Johns

This is an oil painting I did from a photograph I took two summers ago in Jacksonville. The photo is of Fishweir Creek taken from the Loop porch. I made some artistic changes, but I think if you've stood on the porch at the loop you'll know what I was looking at.

The farm

This is an oil painting of a field I found an old farm just outside of Yankton.

Ginny's Art Philosphy

This blog was inspired by my good friend and fellow artist, Cleve Page (clevepage.blogspot.com), who is a wonderful artist. I paint landscapes. I began 6 years ago now. I took a brief hiatus due to a personal upheaval in my life.

I have posted some of my current paintings which I have hanging in my home here in South Dakota.

I do not paint en plein aire (en plein aire is a French expression which means "in the open air" or the act of painting outdoors) as I find it distracting, but I do paint using a plein aire philosophy and technique, of sorts. I paint only places I have been, from photographs I have taken. I try to complete the painting within 3 hours of beginning the painting. I do sometimes go back to a painting to make corrections or enhancements, but not always. I paint primarily in oils, but have used acrylics. I appreciate the depth of color and light that oils provide.

I hope you like my work. I feel good about it. I appreciate honest criticism. My paintings are available for purchase.
