This is an image of a small cemetary in Switzerland, Florida. The cemetary is nestled amongst these trees between a country road and the St. Johns River.

A country road in fall
This is an image of a country road in the Yankton area. My friend and I stumbled upon this road while driving around Yankton looking for subject matter to paint. It was painted primarily with a palette knife. I like the way the shadows fall upon the road almost making it appear as water flowing through the trees.

A summer storm on the St. Johns
Ginny's Art Philosphy
This blog was inspired by my good friend and fellow artist, Cleve Page (clevepage.blogspot.com), who is a wonderful artist. I paint landscapes. I began 6 years ago now. I took a brief hiatus due to a personal upheaval in my life.
I have posted some of my current paintings which I have hanging in my home here in South Dakota.
I do not paint en plein aire (en plein aire is a French expression which means "in the open air" or the act of painting outdoors) as I find it distracting, but I do paint using a plein aire philosophy and technique, of sorts. I paint only places I have been, from photographs I have taken. I try to complete the painting within 3 hours of beginning the painting. I do sometimes go back to a painting to make corrections or enhancements, but not always. I paint primarily in oils, but have used acrylics. I appreciate the depth of color and light that oils provide.
I hope you like my work. I feel good about it. I appreciate honest criticism. My paintings are available for purchase.
